Ruth Gramann (née Organ) was born in Brighton, UK in 1969. She studied Music and French at Goldsmiths' College London, specializing in original composition and ethnomusicology, obtaining her joint BA honours in 1993. Having worked for many years teaching English, French and Music in England, France, Japan and Germany, she decided to go back to her studies in composition in 2007 and since then has been under the tutelage of Professor Dr.Wolfgang Thiel (former lecturer in film music composition of Hanns Eisler Music College in Berlin). Under Wolfgang Thiel and Michael Zev Gordon's tutelage, she completed an MA in Composition at the University of Birmingham in July 2015. She has written for a variety of media from orchestral to choral works. Her music combines influences from modern and contemporary Western Art Music as well as folk, rock and jazz idioms.
